Scar Subcision

What is it?

Scarring commonly occurs as a result of previous episodes of bad acne breakouts which resulted in areas of collagen loss and skin destruction, giving rise to the appearance of depressed surface texture and skin contour.

Scar Subcision, KBL

Scar subcision is a technique which involves inserting a special needle beneath the skin into the dermal layer to cut and detach existing fibrous bands that have tethered the surface of the skin down to the deeper layers, thereby removing any unwanted pull and tension of the skin. This technique allows the scarred area to level up with the rest of the skin’s surface and eventually heal for a smoother complexion.

It is often used as an adjunctive procedure on top of the gold standard Smartxide Fractional CO2 Laser resurfacing for scars in order to achieve much better overall results.

What type of scars are suitable?

  • Rolling Scars
  • Box car scars
  • Tethered, puckered scars

It is recommended to undergo this treatment every 4 weeks. It is important to repeat this treatment regularly in order to see continued improvement.

What to expect during treatment?

This is a relatively quick procedure that involves carefully inserting a special needle beneath the skin of scarred areas. Some tugging will be felt under the skin as attempt is made to cut through these tough fibrous bands.

Local anaesthetic lignocaine injection will be administered to reduce the discomfort.

Bleeding and swelling can often be seen at the end of treatment.

Is there any downtime?

Yes, there is a short downtime to this treatment. There will be swelling and bruising at areas of treatment and this will take 5-7 days to resolve.

How can I minimize the risk of bleeding or bruising?

Avoid consuming vitamin E supplement, omega-3 fish oil, NSAIDs painkillers or blood thinning medications for 3 days before the procedure, unless medically indicated by your doctor*.

*Please discuss with the doctor before you decide to stop regular medications on your own as they may be important for the underlying medical condition.

If you are someone who tends to swell, bleed or bruise easily, we strongly encourage you to start on our Recovery Boost Pack to speed up the healing process and reduce overall downtime.
