Keloid Scar Reduction

What is it?

Keloids are pink, raised and fleshy scars that form as a result of abnormal and excessive production of collagen in the skin during a healing process from an injury.

There is usually a genetic predisposition to development of keloids and they tend to form over areas of high skin tension such as central chest, shoulders, ear lobes and the back, often presenting as an embarrassing skin problem to the sufferers.

To treat keloidal scars, we inject steroid medication into the lesion, allowing the anti-inflammatory effect of the medication to break down, shrink and eventually flatten the scar over time.

The quantity of steroid that is injected into each keloid scar is very minimal, reducing the potential side effects of steroids such as skin atrophy, hypopigmentation and telangiectasia.
