Discovery Pico Laser
What is it?
Featuring one of the most advanced laser technologies, the Discovery Pico Laser is capable of generating pure photoacoustic effects to specifically target stubborn skin pigmentation, tattoos and improvement of sun-damaged and aged skin.
The Discovery Pico generates the most powerful dual wavelength picosecond laser energy with ultrashort pulses of duration a trillionth of a second that can efficiently yet safely fragment melanin pigments into thin “dust” that are readily eliminated by the body’s immune system. The laser beam penetrates through the deeper layers of the skin, focusing the energy directly onto problem areas without damaging the surrounding tissues, reducing unwanted complications such as burns and post-inflammatory marks. This ensures effective removal of pigmentation to reveal a brighter, fairer and healthier skin complexion.
Besides targeting pigmentation and enhancing skin tone, the fractional and photothermal mode allows us to simultaneously address issues of uneven skin textures such as fine lines, large pores and scars via stimulation of collagen and elastin production in the different layers of skin. The end result is that of restoration of the skin’s bounciness, improvement of the skin’s thickness and enhancement of the overall skin quality for that youthful, anti-ageing effect.

What is the difference between Discovery Pico Laser vs. Q-Switched Laser?
Both the Pico and Q-Switched lasers operates primarily at 1064nm wavelength and the melanin pigment is their main chromophore target. The Discovery Pico Laser however, with its patented Quanta Pico-Boost Technology, can deliver up to 1.8GW of power, many times higher than the Q-Switched laser system.
This enables it to effectively shatter pigments into much smaller particles as compared to Q-Switched laser, making it one of the most powerful and efficient pigment treatment modalities available in the market. Compared to the Q-Switched, the Discovery Pico can effectively clear pigments at much faster rate, therefore reducing the total number of treatments required.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long will the effect last?
The effect of each laser treatment generally lasts for 1 month.
What is the treatment interval?
We recommend repeating treatments on a 3-4 weekly basis for continued improvement of skin quality.
How soon will I see the effect?
The effect of the laser treatment can be felt within a few days and the skin continues to improve over the span of 2 weeks to 1 month.
Depending on skin condition, multiple sessions done on a regular basis are usually required to achieve good results.
How many sessions are required?
We recommend at least 4 to 6 sessions for see a good overall improvement as well as prolonged results. More sessions may often be required for stubborn skin conditions.
What to expect during treatment?
The treatment is very tolerable and feels warm with slight tingling sensation like tiny rubber bands snapped against the skin. The treatment usually lasts for about 20-25 minutes. For those with lower pain threshold, we will apply a layer numbing cream 15 minutes before the procedure to ensure comfort throughout the procedure.
Redness of the skin can often be seen at the end of treatment.
Is there any downtime?
There is usually no downtime for this treatment. You can return to work or daily activities immediately after treatment. A flushing redness and slight itch may be experienced and it will resolve spontaneously in 1-2 hours.
In sometimes individuals however, they may be short downtime experienced when a more aggressive treatment mode is used to treat certain pigment lesions. Darkening of pigmentation will be seen which will then form scabs before eventually sloughing off the skin. This healing process can take up to 5-7 days.
In rare occasions when addressing textural concerns such as large pores or scarring, the fractional mode will be used and this will result in significant redness and bleeding at the end of the treatment. The skin healing will require 3-5 days to complete.
Are the results permanent?
Pigmentation that has been successfully removed do not usually return as a result of cessation of treatments.
However, maintenance of clear skin with regular laser treatments, sun avoidance, sunscreen as well as medical grade skin lightening products still form the mainstay preventive factors to avoid formation of new pigmentation on the skin.
