What is it?

Botox, also known as botulinum toxin A, is an injectable procedure that is commonly used to address these issues: 

1. Removes dynamic facial expression lines and wrinkles

It works by temporarily paralysing the target facial muscles responsible for causing wrinkling, thereby erasing those unsightly expression lines for a more youthful and approachable appearance. When done regularly, it prevents skin from forming permanent creases as a result of constant muscle pull on the skin on top of collagen loss due to skin ageing. It has also been shown that the skin texture and quality will also improve over time.

How long will the effect last?

Botox effect varies between different individuals but it generally lasts between 4 to 6 months. 

What is the treatment interval?

Depending on your needs, we recommend repeating Botox injections on a 4-6 monthly basis. Reinjection is necessary to maintain optimal results. 

How soon will I see the effect?

Most patients will feel the muscle weakening effect kicking in on day 3-4. The full effect of muscle paralysis is experienced by day 10-14. 

What to expect during treatment?

The injection is very tolerable and feels just like tiny ant-bites. We use ice pack cooling during the procedure to further reduce the discomfort. If you have a low pain threshold, we can apply a layer of numbing cream 15-20 minutes before the procedure. The procedure itself takes about 10 minutes. 

There may be pin-point needle marks that are barely noticeable at the end of treatment. 

Is there any downtime?

No. But occasionally there may be very slight bruising over the injection sites. If that happens, they often last for about 3-5 days on average. You can easily conceal the bruising spots with concealer makeup the next day. 

How can I minimize the risk of bleeding or bruising?

Avoid consuming vitamin E supplement, omega-3 fish oil, NSAIDs painkillers or blood thinning medications for 3 days before the procedure, unless medically indicated by your doctor*. 

*Please discuss with the doctor before you decide to stop regular medications on your own as they may be important for the underlying medical condition.

Are the results permanent?

Botox is being broken down naturally by our body over time and the effect of each treatment usually lasts for 4-6 months. Reinjection is necessary to maintain optimal results. 

What is the post-treatment care?

• Continue skincare as per usual routine
• Avoid vigorous massage of treatment areas
• Avoid vigorous exercise (running, swimming, heavy weights training) for at least 1 to 2 days
• Avoid taking alcohol on the day of treatment
• Apply cold packs to areas of bruising or swelling, if any
• Apply makeup only on the next day
